Pronoun Reference & Cohesion Rules

Ensure clear pronoun-antecedent agreement: A singular subject requires a singular pronoun ('Every student must bring his or her notes' or modern singular 'their').

Avoid ambiguous pronoun references where readers cannot identify which noun 'it' or 'they' refers to.

Use relative pronouns ('which', 'who', 'whose', 'whereby') to combine short choppy sentences into sophisticated complex clauses.

Distinguish 'who' (subject role) from 'whom' (object role after prepositions like 'to', 'for', 'with').
