Especially for beginners
Grammar can feel overwhelming when every rule is taught at once. We break complex grammar into small, relatable chunks, explain what each structure means and show how it works in everyday communication.
Instead of waiting until you have “finished grammar” to start speaking, you learn a useful conversation first, notice the language that makes it work, and then practise using those structures yourself—in spoken and written English.
Small steps. Real conversation.
Our Guiding Principle
Conversation is the priority. Grammar supports communication—it is not a barrier you must overcome before you can communicate.
Our Conversation-First Grammar Method
We organise practical conversation into five broad categories. Each gives learners a meaningful reason to use grammar, vocabulary and sentence patterns in context.
Talk about habits, daily activities and familiar experiences using present, past and future forms.
Describe what happened, sequence events and explain background actions using past forms such as V2, was/were and had.
Discuss intentions, predictions, plans and fixed arrangements using will, going to and present forms for arrangements.
State a view, give a reason and support it with an example. Practise conjunctions, linking expressions and cohesion.
Build a case, respond to another viewpoint, support claims with reasons and think more quickly in discussion.
Meet grammar inside a useful conversation, not as an isolated list of rules.
Break the structure into manageable parts and see when and why it is used.
Practise the same language in speaking and writing, with feedback and gradual extension.
The Callens difference
Before recommending a course, we invite you to a free, one-to-one meeting with a trainer. Tell us what you want to achieve, where you struggle and how you use English today.
As you talk, our trainers observe your communication and gather diagnostic insights through natural, carefully guided activities—so the process feels comfortable, not intimidating.

Our diagnostic approach
We look beyond a single speaking sample to understand your strengths, goals and the skills that need focused attention.
Comprehension, connected speech and understanding spoken English.
Fluency, sentence formation, vocabulary and confidence.
Understanding written texts, meaning and useful language patterns.
Grammar in context, clarity and organising ideas.
CEFR-informed progression
We use the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) as a guide to proficiency and progression. Your course recommendation reflects your current abilities, learning goals and areas for improvement.

Our approach combines focused skill practice with real interaction—so learners can move from knowing English rules to using English more naturally.
Express opinions, organise ideas and respond to different viewpoints.
Practise public speaking, interview answers and professional communication.
Build spontaneity, expression, teamwork and comfort speaking in front of others.
Train your ear to follow natural spoken English and understand more without subtitles.
Build real conversational skills with trainers and fellow learners.
Use capable AI conversation tools for additional practice across different scenarios.
Regular progress reviews help trainers revisit each skill, identify what still needs work and adapt the learning priorities as you improve. We also use Cambridge University Press learning resources alongside practical communication activities.
